Yuba County is one of California’s original 27 counties, with its county seat in the city of Marysville. The Yuba County Superior Court exercises jurisdiction over all criminal, civil, family, and probate matters within the county. Whether you need to check on a pending case, obtain a certified copy of a judgment, or research historical filings, several pathways exist for accessing court records — from the clerk’s counter at the courthouse to web-based portals available around the clock.
Residents and legal professionals in California can begin locating court case information through official clerk offices, self-service public access terminals at courthouses, and dedicated online case-search tools. The statewide resource at CaliforniaCourts.us may also assist in identifying publicly available case data across California’s trial courts. For Yuba County specifically, the Superior Court maintains its own online case access system with records dating back to 1999, requiring no registration for general public searches.

Are Court Records Public in Yuba County?
California law establishes a strong presumption of public access to court records. Under California Rules of Court, Rule 2.550, court records are open to the public for inspection unless a specific statute, rule, or court order requires otherwise. Rule 2.502 defines “court records” broadly to include all filed documents, papers, exhibits, and transcripts — whether in paper or electronic form — as well as any photographs, films, or electronic recordings that form part of a case file.
Several categories of records carry restrictions or are entirely confidential:
- Sealed records — A court may seal records upon motion under Rules 2.550–2.551 if there is an overriding interest that overcomes the right of public access. Sealed records cannot be inspected without a court order.
- Juvenile case files — Records in juvenile delinquency and dependency proceedings are confidential under Welfare and Institutions Code § 827.
- Mental health proceedings — Filings in Lanterman-Petris-Short (LPS) conservatorship cases and other mental health matters carry heightened confidentiality.
- Adoption records — Sealed upon finalization of the adoption under Family Code § 9200.
- Sexual assault victim information — Personal identifying details of victims in sexual assault cases may be redacted or restricted.
- Child support enforcement records — Certain documents in Department of Child Support Services actions are treated as confidential.
Personal identifiers such as Social Security numbers, financial account numbers, and dates of birth must be redacted from publicly filed documents under Rule 1.201 and California Rules of Court, Rule 2.507. Filers bear responsibility for redacting protected information before submission.
The California Public Records Act (Government Code § 7920.000 et seq.) governs access to records held by executive-branch agencies but does not directly control judicial branch records, which are instead governed by the Rules of Court and the trial court’s own policies. When records fall outside a statutory exemption, any member of the public may inspect them during regular clerk office hours or through the court’s electronic access tools.

When a probate note recommends granting a petition, no appearance is typically required.
Fees:
