Glenn County, California sits in the northern Sacramento Valley, and like every California county, its court system generates a substantial volume of public records touching criminal, civil, family, and probate matters. Whether you need to verify a court outcome, research a legal history, or obtain certified copies of case documents, understanding how the record system is structured — and knowing exactly where to go — makes the process far more manageable.

Finding Court Records in Glenn County:

Court records in California can be located through official court clerk offices, courthouse public-access terminals, and online search systems maintained by the courts themselves. CaliforniaCourts.us is a useful starting point for locating publicly available case information and navigating resources across the state's unified trial court system.

How to Look Up a Court Case in Glenn County?

There are three primary methods for searching Glenn County court records: online through the court's case index, in person at the courthouse, or by submitting a written request by mail.

Online Case Search

The Glenn County Superior Court's Online Case Index is the most accessible starting point. Through this portal, you can search by party name or case number and retrieve case calendars and registers of actions. The system covers civil, family law, probate, criminal, and traffic matters. Keep in mind that case documents themselves cannot be downloaded or printed through the online portal, and certain case categories are excluded from public view.

In-Person Access

Visiting the courthouse is necessary when you need document copies, when a case is not visible online, or when a clerk-assisted search is required. The court's main courthouse is open Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Mail Requests

Mail requests should go to the clerk's office at the address above. Include the name to be searched, the type of case, and an approximate filing date. Enclose applicable fees and a self-addressed return envelope. If you're not sure of the exact amount owed, a check made out with a "not to exceed $20" notation in the memo line allows the clerk to fill in the correct amount.

Electronic Filing

As of January 27, 2025, the Glenn County Superior Court launched mandatory electronic filing (eFiling) for juvenile dependency, civil, probate, and family law matters. Self-represented parties are exempt from mandatory eFiling requirements but may participate voluntarily. Criminal and traffic case types allow permissive eFiling. Filing must be submitted through an authorized eFiling Service Provider (EFSP), and a $3.50 per-transaction eFiling fee applies to all electronically filed envelopes (excluding criminal case types).

Are Court Records Public in Glenn County?

Glenn County court records are presumptively public under California law. California Rules of Court, Rule 2.400(a) establishes that court records must be made reasonably available to the public as a matter of public access rights. Similarly, Rule 2.503(a)(1) confirms that electronic court records are subject to the same right of access unless sealed or made confidential by law.

Under Government Code § 68151, a court record includes all filed papers and documents in a case folder, all items maintained by the court in connection with a case, and other records identified in Government Code § 68152(g). This encompasses motions, writs, depositions, transcripts, orders, subpoenas, opinions, judgments, and registers of actions.

Records That Are Confidential or Restricted

The public right of access is not unlimited. The following categories of Glenn County court records are sealed or confidential by operation of statute, rule, or court order:

  • Juvenile dependency and delinquency records
  • Psychiatric evaluations and mental health reports
  • Records in attachment proceedings
  • Identities of victims in sexual offense cases
  • Reports prepared in connection with proposed conservatorships or guardianships
  • Documents sealed by court order

The California Trial Court Records Manual contains a complete listing of confidential record categories in Appendix 1. The Glenn County Superior Court's Local Rules of Court (effective January 1, 2026) also govern specific procedural requirements for record access and sealing.

It is worth noting that judicial administrative records — as distinct from case records — are subject to access rules under California Rules of Court 10.500(f), which provides somewhat broader access for non-adjudicative court documents.

Copy Fees

The current fee schedule is detailed in the court's Civil Filing and Appearance Fees list. Relevant copy costs include:

  • Plain copies: $0.50 per page
  • Certification of a document: $40.00 per document
  • Clerk-assisted records search: fees apply per the schedule

Inspecting a case file on a public courthouse terminal is free of charge; fees apply only when clerk assistance is requested or when copies are made.

Glenn County Criminal Court Records

Criminal court records in Glenn County arise from prosecutions initiated by the state for alleged violations of the California Penal Code and related statutes. These include felony and misdemeanor matters adjudicated by the Glenn County Superior Court.

Searching Criminal Court Records

The court's Case Search portal allows members of the public to look up criminal case index information and registers of actions by party name or case number. For copies of criminal case documents, requests must be made in person or by mail at the main courthouse. The Court Records page on the court's website provides a summary of available access methods.

District Attorney and Criminal Proceedings

The Glenn County District Attorney's Office prosecutes all criminal matters on behalf of the People of California. The DA's office is located at:

Address: 125 South Murdock Avenue, Willows, CA 95988
Phone: (530) 934-6525

Defendants who cannot retain private counsel may apply for appointment of the Public Defender. The court's Sentencing Guidelines and current Jail Bail Schedule are publicly available on the court website.

Criminal Court Records vs. Arrest Records

An important distinction applies here. The Superior Court maintains records of criminal proceedings — charges filed, hearings, pleas, verdicts, and sentencing. Arrest records, by contrast, are maintained by the arresting law enforcement agency, not the court. If you need Glenn County arrest information, contact the Glenn County Sheriff's Office or the relevant local police department directly. For a comprehensive statewide criminal history, you can submit a request to the California Department of Justice, which aggregates reported criminal records from agencies throughout the state, including Glenn County.

Glenn County Civil Court Records

Civil court records in Glenn County cover disputes between private parties, businesses, and government agencies where the remedy sought is monetary damages or equitable relief rather than criminal punishment. The Glenn County Superior Court handles the full range of civil matters, including general civil claims, small claims, and unlawful detainer (eviction) proceedings.

Searching Civil Records

The Online Case Index is the primary tool for locating civil case information. You can search by party name or case number, and results display registers of actions and court calendars. Because the online system does not allow document downloads, parties who need filed pleadings, judgments, or other specific documents must request them through the clerk's office in person or by mail.

eFiling for Civil Matters

All civil matters in Glenn County are subject to mandatory electronic filing as of January 2025, pursuant to California Code of Civil Procedure § 1010.6 and California Rules of Court, Rules 2.250–2.261. Filings must be submitted through an approved EFSP. Self-represented litigants are exempt from mandatory eFiling and may file in paper form at the clerk's counter.

Court Forms and Fee Schedules

The court's Forms & Filing page provides access to local forms, statewide Judicial Council forms, and the current fee and bail schedules. Civil filing fees are itemized in the Civil Filing and Appearance Fees list, which should be consulted before submitting any request for copies or filing any document with the court.

Glenn County Family Court Records

Family law proceedings in Glenn County — including divorce (dissolution of marriage), legal separation, child custody, child support, domestic violence restraining orders, and adoptions — are handled by the Glenn County Superior Court. Records from these cases are maintained by the court clerk and are generally searchable through the same Online Case Index used for civil matters.

Accessing Family Court Records

Because family law matters are subject to mandatory eFiling (excluding self-represented parties), attorneys and represented parties submit documents electronically. The clerk's office maintains the physical and electronic case file. Members of the public can view family court case information through the court's Case Search portal, though certain family law records — particularly those involving minors — may be restricted from public view.

Divorce Records

Dissolution of marriage proceedings generate a case file that includes the petition, response, financial disclosures, any custody and support orders, and the final judgment. These records are accessible through in-person inspection at the courthouse or by submitting a mail request to the clerk's office. Copies of the judgment or decree of dissolution are subject to standard copy fees.

Domestic Violence Matters

The court's Self-Help Center at (530) 934-7114 provides free assistance to unrepresented parties in domestic violence restraining order proceedings, as well as guidance on completing and submitting required forms. The Self-Help Center assists with family law and other civil matters for individuals who cannot afford an attorney.

Adoption Records

Adoption proceedings are handled through the court's Adoption division. Adoption records are confidential under California law and are not available for public inspection without a court order.

Marriage Records

Marriage records for Glenn County are maintained by the Glenn County Assessor/Clerk-Recorder's Office rather than the Superior Court. Certified copies of public (non-confidential) marriage certificates may be obtained by submitting the Application for Certified Copy of Marriage Certificate with a fee of $17 per copy. Per Health and Safety Code § 103526, only authorized persons may receive an authorized certified copy; all others receive an informational certified copy marked as not valid for establishing identity. Confidential marriage certificates are available only to the spouses or by court order.

The Glenn County Clerk-Recorder's Office is located at:
Address: 516 West Sycamore Street, 2nd Floor, Willows, CA 95988
Fax: (530) 934-6571
Office Hours: Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.

Records can also be requested through the Clerk-Recorder's Official Records Search online portal.

Glenn County Probate Court Records

Probate proceedings in Glenn County are filed with and supervised by the Glenn County Superior Court. According to the court's Probate division, a probate case may involve validating a will, identifying heirs or beneficiaries, valuing estate assets, resolving the decedent's financial obligations, and distributing property to those entitled to inherit. The entire probate process typically takes between nine months and one year, and often longer for complex estates.

In a probate case, the court appoints either an executor (when a valid will exists) or an administrator (when there is no will) as the personal representative of the estate. This representative collects assets, pays debts and expenses, and distributes the remainder under ongoing court supervision.

What Probate Records Cover

Probate case files in Glenn County may include petitions for probate, inventories and appraisals of estate property, creditor claims, accountings, petitions for guardianship or conservatorship, and final orders of distribution. Guardianship and conservatorship proceedings — handled through the probate division — involve court oversight of adults or minors who are unable to manage their own affairs. The Glenn County Public Administrator/Guardian provides additional information about conservatorship for county residents.

Accessing Probate Records

Probate case records can be searched through the court's Online Case Index using a party name or case number. Copies of probate documents — including certified copies needed to conduct estate business such as transferring property or closing financial accounts — can be obtained at the courthouse or by mail. Certified copies are subject to the court's standard certification fee of $40 per document, with plain copies costing $0.50 per page, as set out in the Civil Filing and Appearance Fees schedule.

Note that wills, codicils, and testamentary trusts may not be submitted through the court's eFiling system and must be filed in paper form with the clerk's office. Probate matters are otherwise subject to mandatory eFiling for represented parties under the court's current local rules.
